After 18 miles and a little over a thousand feet gained, I have arrived in Najera. I think this is my favorite town that I have stayed in so far. It reminds me of Moab, Utah where the town is integrated in with the mountain system. The other thing I really enjoy about this town, is when I was walking around I saw two separate bars that were full of people playing cards… one for women and the other for men. The community spirit is strong.
I am just over 20% done with the trip. I’ve hiked 115 miles out of the 500 and I definitely have my routine down. Wake up, pack my bag, get breakfast, stretch, hike, journal, dinner, read, bed. I am also starting to feel the fatigue from the trip but I am told that at a certain point my body will adjust and power on. Two people that I have met on the trail have stopped their pilgrimages. I hope they find what they were looking for down the road.
Somebody asked me what I listen to if anything at all while I am hiking. Good question. I generally rotate between music, books on tape, and silence. I don’t think I spend more than an hour without listening to something because any more than an hour I lose the serenity of the walk. I suspect that at months end I will have finished 7 books because I limit how much TV I watch at night because I need to protect my sleep.
Love Ryan
