I arrived in Spain two nights ago and I spent my time getting settled in Leon. I have actually been traveling for the past two weeks: NYC, a couple of islands in the Caribbean, and a golf tournament in Pennsylvania so getting a rest day before my trek was nice to have.
In a weird twist of irony or maybe the Camino just has it out for me but on my walk from the taxi cab to my hotel I twisted my ankle. 9 months of training and I fell apart in the first 100 feet to the hotel. If coach Brad is reading this he is going to design some exercise where I jump on cobblestones when I return to Boise.
However, I aggressively rested my ankle yesterday and it held together better than I anticipated it would. Just some light discomfort and limited mobility but I am assuming that two glasses of red wine tonight will bring me back in good form. For the most part, today was pretty easy. 12.5 miles over a 1K vertical feet and it took me a little over 4 hours. This is a much slower pace than last year (by intention) and I even stopped for an espresso to take everything in.
Being back in Spain brought back a lot of memories from my past travels. I am still amazed at how lively the squares get with people having coffee and beer while catching up. Very social and casually paced. I’ve also been hammering out lots of books with my solitude. One book that was given to me by Peggy Monroe is called Theo of Golden. It’s a must read and as recommended by Peggy, don’t do any advanced research about the book or the author- just read it. You won’t be disappointed. Love, Ryan
