Random Acts

Today wasn’t as bad as I was anticipating. 17 miles with 2K of ascent and 2,800ft of decline and I felt strong throughout. The day after next I will be in my destination and thus a close to this journey.

One of the things that you’ll find as you get closer to Santiago is there are these entrepreneurs that will sit on the side of the Camino and sell you waxed stamps (for the Camino passport) and other artistic works that they have done. They aren’t everywhere but certainly more common than what I found at the beginning on the journey which was next to none.

I got a waxed stamp last week because I needed to stretch and this guy was right there so why not. However, today when I was walking there was a guy that had brought a piano on the trail and was playing classical music- it was beautiful. It was also a reminder of how a simple act can change your mood and create a memory that you’ll share with others. That’s what the piano guy had on me today. I encourage you to think about all of the random acts of kindness you have experienced in the past month…. It was a good exercise for me. I would also encourage you to think about the non random acts that happen around you. For me, I will look forward to coming back to green juices, porch coffees, impromptu wine gatherings, settling the golf bets at the bar, arguing with Scott about the place white Burgundy has in the world, and Pinot doing Pinot things.
